I don't know about you but I for one do not like paying to go see a sad movie! My idea of escapism involves either crazy action or stupid comedy. It was the latter I was hoping for when Rebecca and I went to see the recently released animated movie Up. Although there certainly were some funny parts to the movie I felt the overall plot was quite sad. Wikipedia describes the basic plot as follows: Carl Fredricksen is a…

Yes, that's true. The boat does have a VHF radio, a requirement for a vessel such as this, but we aren't permitted to use it. Not until we acquire a Radio Operators Certificate it appears. We are due to take delivery of Katana next weekend but the marine radio course we signed up for a long time ago will not be taking place until the following Monday. I searched online today and was able to find a downloadable copy of…

hmmm... where did my banner images go? Perhaps it is just me but the top and side banner images on this blog just stopped working. I am pretty sure I didn't do anything to cause this. Any Wordpress Maestros have a solution? Perhaps because it just stopped working all on its own if I go to bed and forget about it, it will just start working all on its own by tomorrow?

Today's big task... secure (pay for) our marina slip(s). Yes, that should really be plural because we need two adjacent slips to fit the beam (width) of our boat. They have us tucked away in a quiet little corner, (thankfully) away from most of the really expensive boats. Once we are down South we will likely live at anchor most of the time. Doing so here, when we still need to go to work each day, would sadly be a…

We have a boat! That's right boys and girls... after receiving our surveyor's very-thorough report today I signed off on the conditions of the purchase agreement for Katana. I updated our boat page here with a few details on the catamaran, and will continue to add more particulars and pics as time goes by. Number 1 on today's To Do list was organizing insurance. We received quotes from several brokers and think we have settled on one. I just filled…

Survey Day. A very significant step in our plan. If the survey went well we would move from the wannabe category to full-fledged boat owners. If not, it was back to web-shopping for boats! We woke early to be on the road by 7 AM, knowing that we would have to contend with Toronto rush-hour traffic to make the 11:00 AM appointment for the survey. When we arrived, our surveyor Richard was already doing his thing, inspecting Katana's insides. Anthony…
