We just received the Purchase and Sale agreement for Katana, the PDQ 32 that, if all goes well, will soon be ours. We are very, very excited! The boat will be surveyed next week after the current owners have one last weekend away on her. If the survey is good, which we are confident it will be, a large amount of money will be traded for a sexy, white Catamaran! Did I mention we are excited! We have been long-time…

Now that we have our sights locked on a particular boat I haven't been spending (as much) time on the Yachtworld.com, and other similar sites. That doesn't mean we haven't been investing time in online research though! One thing I have been doing is very regular checks of the Canadian -> US$ exchange rates. They say "a watched pot never boils." I wonder if the same holds true if I keep hitting refresh on the online exchange rate site!

Plenty happened today. First, and most importantly, Katana's current owners emailed us back and have not only agreed to the terms of the sale but also agreed to help us deliver the boat from Oakville, where she is lying now, to Kingston! This will be very helpful for us and we are extremely grateful for the help! We faxed in an application to the Marina mentioned below. I also obtained a quotation for insurance. I played a bit of telephone tag with…

We are inching closer to being to being full-fledged boat owners! We may have decided to delay our cruising departure but the whole boat ownership thing is happening (potentially) on a much accelerated timetable. Our super-cool banker that we mentioned below told us on Friday that our financing was approved. Yeah! We immediately contacted Katana's owners and told them of our intentions. Here's what needs to happen now: Katana's owners need to confirm acceptance Katana needs to be surveyed by…

We have a boat in our sights! Yesterday's tasks: Secure boat financing - underway - waiting on banker* to get back to us Talk to Marine Surveyor - check Find place locally to keep boat - I think we have this sorted I won't post any more details as I don't want to jinx the deal. Let's hope it works out. Fingers crossed! Yesterday we were discussing ideas for our summer vacation this year. If we had a boat we may just…

Yesterday I made a huge update to the book section on the Research page listing every book that we are planning on keeping as well as links to where you can find most of the books online. As large as that list is it will no doubt continue to grow. On route to us now is 10 or so cruising guides for various areas in the Caribbean. I will be sure to list those too once we receive them. Jumping…
