My latest bit of research is coming by way of the book The Care And Feeding of the Sailing Crew by Lin and Larry Pardey. The authors of the book, the Pardeys have been cruising forever! And they do so now primarily onboard TALEISIN, their engineless 29 footer! The book goes into serious detail about provisioning, organizing a galley and preparing meals underway. My only critique of the book is that, because it includes recipes at the beginning of every…

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - Mark Twain

We have been having some reasonable success trading our stuff for cash. This is a good thing because I seldom see boats being traded for old furniture and appliances! But, as Murphy's Law would have it, we found out this morning that in order to fulfill the final condition of our house sale it is going to cost us at least a thousand bucks. Sigh! Oh well. We may just have the most regularly-updated blog that is read by no one :) Or at least, not read by very many people (yet). Well, in case someone DOES actually read this we finalized the sale of our house this evening! Woo hoo! The house closes April 24th…

As previously noted we have been spending a ridiculous amount of time scouring the web, looking at available boats. One of the Catamarans which has caught our eye is the PDQ 36 (or her baby sister, the PDQ 32). These boats, which were built in nearby Whitby, ON, are pretty much the ONLY boats about which we have yet to read anything negative (and believe me we have looked). In fact, the only negative we have found is that there…

On October 3rd, 2008, over a few glasses of wine, Rebecca and I put pen to paper and began to form our plan. The first line written in the little black journal was "How can we sail away forever by July 2011?" Boy how our plans have changed. It was only 20 days later, on October 23rd that the revised departure date of November 2009 was entered into the journal. It's actually kind of fun looking back at the initial…
