All work and no play makes Mike and Rebecca fat and unhappy. With some nicer weather making its debut this week, we are finally able to get back to our outdoor morning workouts. Fortunately there is a cool park just behind our marina where we can do our TRX training. Rebecca also hopes to get there early enough to beat the moms and kiddies so she can do some dancing on the playground pole. After all, we have to stay shipshape just like our boat does!

Note: 1. We did not decide on purpose to dress in opposite colors for the workout. 2. I did not photoshop our hair to look that wild and crazy. It’s au naturel. 🙂

  1. Weather a bit nicer here so Sarah’s has started running in the mornings – or at least a jog that’s a bit faster than a walk. Pip’s knee’s is still tender so the endless lugging stuff about is subbing for a workout! But once the foredeck is clear we’ll be starting some effort. We thought hard about a TRX but don’t yet feel that we’d really benefit from it yet, but probably next summer. So keep it up 9I know you will!) as an inspiration to the rest of us.

    • Thanks for the post. Not to sound like a sales pitch but the cool thing about the TRX is that people of ANY fitness level can adjust the resistance to an appropriate level, just by making either minute adjustments of position or by doing a progression/regression of the particular exercise. Friends of ours have a TRX in their house and their grandmother uses it (in her own way) on a regular(?) basis. That is the trick of course… one would actually have to use it.

As for the comment on lugging stuff about, that can either be good for you, or not. I sometimes refer to the hard labor that my students do as “anti-exercise.” They do the same, physically demanding tasks over and over. It is hard, and develops strength in certain ways, but totally neglects other, opposing motions. In this way they develop imbalances in their strength. I did a lot of running back and forth up the dock yesterday, and a lot of sawing and chiseling wood, and I was tired at the end, but I wouldn’t compare it favorably with a proper workout session.

  2. I have long been curious as to why Rebecca’s name is always bold in your posts. Care to shed some light on that? Because you know what curiosity does.

  3. Wow, that’s a crazy move on the pole! If I saw that in the morning I’d have to reconsider my day.

  4. I can identify with the “all work and no play”. All our backpacking gear is stowed in tote bins,as we’re in a tiny apartment. We’re winter campers, and we got no trips this winter,as our gear is so scattered. Finally starting to get some trail time to be ready for sailing season.Moving in about 3 weeks and we’ll have our own organized gear room for backpacking and sailing. 8 months till Bahamas cruisin!

    • I find it interesting that Rebecca and I have been “displaced,” living without a real permanent residence, for a year now. It’s nice to be back on the boat and know that we don’t have to “move” again.

See you in the Bahamas! 🙂

  5. Jayzus that woman has pipes!

  6. The weather finally broke here so I think its gonna give me some motivation to take my TRX outside and get some work in. Lately its just been staring at me as it hangs by itself from the ceiling.

  7. I’m thinking that the TRX is a great way to stay in shape when we’re in the Bahamas. I have a tree already picked out….
