Any of you sailing smarties care to tell me what the fitting is called in the picture below? The traveller is attached to it below the boom via the shackle.

  1. I don’t know if this is the correct name for it but I’d just call it the mainsheet bracket. It looks like a padeye type of bracket: http://www.mmsacc-stainless.com/html/pad_eye.htm

I’ve had trouble tracking down the exact bracket from the Harken, etc websites. Is there a label on your boom or track? The nearest I can find is here: http://www.sparcraft.com/uk/main.asp?url=http://www.sparcraft.com/uk/products/booms/default.asp&f=2,78,,, If you scroll to the very bottom of the page and then click on the picture alongside the “Boom brackets” section, it will open up an image that seems to show a similar type of bracket to the one you have. Might be worth dropping them an email and attach the pic from this post.

    • I posted the same pic on Facebook, and then tagged all of my sailing “friends” to see what they though as well. I think the consensus is that it is called a padeye, although one which slides in the boom track as opposed to being screwed down. Thanks for playing:)

  2. Just a note to say calling me green with envy would be like calling Kermit a frog. We hope to be joining you soon where the water meets the land.

  3. It is a Cunningham.

    • Thanks for playing Eric, but it’s not a Cunningham. 🙂 It is, as I mentioned, the traveller (other end of the boom). But, what I really wanted to know is if there was a specific name for the pad-eye on the bottom of the boom.
