“Successful people make their decisions quickly and change their minds slowly. Failures make their decisions slowly and change their minds quickly.” Andy Andrews

When we tell people that we make our plans day-to-day, I wonder if they realize just how true that is. Yesterday morning, during my coffee and blog-writing period, I was multitasking a bit thinking about Christmas presents. As it’s been a while since Rebecca has been able to visit with our daughter Cass, who is now living in California, I thought that a nice Christmas present for the two of them would be to get them together. A bit of online flight shopping showed that we could make it happen, if we were in St. Martin. The island is only 270 miles north of here, and that’s just a short hop, right? And so, the plan was set in motion. Rebecca and Cass were consulted (no way I could keep this a surprise), weather was checked, fuel reserves were topped up and custom clearance was obtained. At O-dark-30 today we’ll be setting sail on what could potentially be our longest passage yet: 270 miles.

The math works like this: 270 miles ÷ 5 knots = 54 hours, IF we go all the way. As always, we will be sailing TOWARDS St. Martin, not TO St. Martin. What this means is that if conditions change, we can stop at any of the other good ports along the way, of which there are dozens. Just so that you’re all prepared though, there might just be a pause in the whole daily blog-posting schedule. Please don’t hold your breath tomorrow morning if nothing shows up here. 🙂
