With help from Santa (aka Visa), Rebecca and I are now in the possession of two shiny new Kindle E-readers. With plenty of encouragement from our friends who themselves have adopted this technology, we decided to take the plunge. We settled on the Kindle Touch as opposed to the new Kindle Fire which appears to be more of a tablet than an E-reader, what we were after. After a few days of use I’d have to say that we are 100% sold, even though navigating through the device is quite cumbersome. I even found out this morning that Blogs can be published and read on Kindles, something that I’ll explore a bit more when I have some time and a good internet connection. Now if we could only convert a bit of our research library to Kindle docs then perhaps our boat would ride a bit higher in the water.

Unrelated to the above, I would like to publicly thank one of our readers, Doug, who sent Rebecca and I a great Christmas gift! How cool is that, especially considering that we have never met him? Thanks so much, Doug!

  1. Love our Kindles, but use them strictly for book reading. Some early research showed a lot of troubles with other features. Just finished “Captain Blood” by Rafael Sabatini (free on Kindle) Great Caribbean history-ish.

  2. Hope you two had a wonderful christmas and we would like to wish you a very happy new year as well. It is snowing quite hard here in Kingston as i write this and all i could think about are the beautiful pictures of the islands and beaches that you have posted over the past few months, yes i am very jealous right now, enjoy and god bless.

  3. Pretty sure Kindle reads pdf, so all you need is something to convert your docs to pdf. Lots of apps out there depending on your operating system. Then you plug your kindle into your computer and transfer the files to your kindle and you are done!

  4. I think you made a very wise choice in not only getting a Kindle but for each getting your own. You will LOVE them. Also, there is a feature where other Kindle owners can loan some of the books out to you so if you see something you want, before you buy it, publish the title on your blog or send out an email to other Kindle owners you know and see if they have it and if it can be loaned first. I just read a great book called ‘Enter Night’ (which just happens to be authored by a good friend of mine) and it can be loaned so if you’re interested I will ‘loan’ it to you. It can only be loaned to one person at a time though.

And what a fabulous gift from Doug!!

  5. I have a book rcommendation for you! I am in the midst of reading Ship of Gold in the Deep Blue Sea (on my Kindle), by Gary Kinder. Great read and true story!

Also, download the app on your IPAD and you can read from that as well if you don’t have the kindle handy or if the battery is down.

    • Thanks Elizabeth. I’m in the process of reading the “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” trilogy right now but I’ll keep my eyes open for that one.

  6. Mike & Rebecca,

Take care and keep in touch.

    Your friend, Doug
