Replacement of stock salon light with Fautasi LED lighting from Bebi Electronics.

Removal of stock salon light.

How the new lights came packaged. Note the protective pieces of foam on the switches. Nice touch!

You’ll see that I did not screw the screws all the way in. They were 1.25″ and I was a bit concerned that they would be too long (they were longer than the previous light’s screws). I purchased some 1″ ones and will swap them out tomorrow. Wires were connected under the light by crimped butt connectors.

And it works! Now, just two more to install.

  1. Cool.

My salon light (and galley and nav) is florescent and doesn’t draw much at all, but the lights in the other rooms draw a TON, particularly the reading lights. They each pull for than the 24-inch fan we use for cooling! Clearly, LEDs are the smart way to cut amps.

    • Yeah, I’m not sure what the draw on the current light is/was, but these new ones have to be a tiny fraction of that amount.

This particular light has a three-position switch too so if you’re not reading you can set it to the lowest level and really draw a small amount.

      Plus, lifetime warrantee!

      • Even in the full blast position,LED’s draw practically nothing for power. I swapped all my lights(except running lights-to be done soon) to LED’s and even after hours of lights on,it barely registers.
I figured that I can run fridge, lights stereo, and GPS on 130W solar, because the lights draw so little.
Save that power for the Margarita blender!

        • Absolutely! Margaritas are much more important that being able to read in the dark 🙂

But of course, the LEDs allow us to do both.

  2. Mike,

How do they look at night, have you tried them in the dark ?

    • Sorry Mark. I haven’t yet. We aren’t really back on the boat yet and thus haven’t been there in the dark.

So far, I have also only managed to install the one light shown. Because of the size of the wires feeding the other two interior locations, I am fabricating a wooden “stand off” or base to mount the lights on (there is minimal room for wire under the bebi light). I’ll be sure to report my results as soon as I can.

      Mike
