One of the last remaining projects keeping us here in Grenada was the custom cockpit cushions that we had contracted to have made. Finding someone to do this work was a bit of an ordeal as many of the canvas shops here are completely booked up, and have a waiting list. We ultimately received the name of a manufacturer from our friends Dave and Deb who were also having cushions made and after meeting with him, employed him to do the work.

One of the challenges with this project was obtaining suitable foam to make the cushions. The closed-cell foam that we wanted was either not available down here or was obscenely expensive. We opted to have ours shipped in from the US as did our friends, albeit from different suppliers.

Larry, the owner of the company Nabela which did the work, promised that we would have the cushions by Friday. I had my doubts that that would happen but continued to stay on top of it, letting him know how important receiving them on time was for our departure plans. Sure enough, at 4:55 PM on Friday, we met one of his guys at the dock to pick them up. We think that they look great too!

There was a tiny bit of adjustment that needed to be made on a few of the cushions, standard practice I assume on a project like this. Larry has already been to pick up the cushions to be modified and has already completed that work. Excellent service!

We did get the gears from Dave and Deb last evening as we found out that they still have not received their cushions! They ordered first, received their foam first and yet we got ours completed first. Apparently the squeaky wheel does get grease. I don’t think they were too upset as they knew that we had to leave and they don’t have plans to do so just yet. I understand from them that they should have theirs completed by Tuesday. To make amends, we’ve invited them over to One Love this evening, along with a few other friends, so that they can sit on ours and test them out. That’s just the kind of friends we are. 🙂
