You know what I really wanted to write about today? The huge Mahi Mahi that we caught yesterday. Sadly, despite consistent effort, we ended our sail sans fish. That wasn’t the case for everyone on the water though, and there were a lot of boats out there. In fact, we heard stories of several boats catching big fish, and of course other stories of some that got away. Perhaps today will be better.

We are anchored right now in a shallow bay at Big Farmers Cay, part way between Staniel Cay where we left yesterday morning, and Georgetown where we hope to go today. Georgetown, aka Chicken Harbor, has been referred to as Summer Camp for Cruisers. Some people love it and other cruisers hate it. We’ll let you know what we think about it in short order.

By the way, several people have inquired about what camera we use for the pics on this blog. 99% of the pics, in and out of the water, are taken with our Canon Powershot D10. That is our Amazon affiliate link by the way, just in case you’re shopping for a new camera. 🙂

In the distance you can see the anchorage in between Big and Little Majors. It was fairly popular during the front but it is known to have very strong current running through it so we avoided it.

The rock on this hike was indeed “crinkly.”

Check out the different colors of water on the west coast of Staniel Cay.

Which way to go?

Yeah, REALLY!

Just one more head shot taken by holding my arm extended away from us.

Heading out Big Rock Cut yesterday morning. It was fairly tame compared to how we have seen it the previous few days.

Stop number 1 for us at Farmers? Visiting Farmers Cay Yacht Club for a drink with Roosevelt, the proprietor. By the way, we thought that trying a rum punch would be cheaper than the beer which we have found fairly pricey elsewhere. Verdict? Not really. It was tasty though.

Just some more exploring.

A PDQ 36 (s/v Windrush), just after coming through the cut at Farmers. The current was ripping through there when we arrived. We were doing close to 5 knots through the water but making only 1 knot of headway through the cut at one point!

  1. Be sure to go meet Don on Next Exit. He’s good people and an expert on the area as he’s been cruising down there forever and a day. Tell him Doug, Cindy and the since deceased Schooner-dog say hi!

  2. Re: mahi-mahi. That’s why they call it fishing instead of catching! The pics are beautiful. Does that Canon take different lenses?

  3. Come on Rebecca, will you show Mike how to catch fish….He still laughs that I told him Canadian Bacon on a lure as a teaser

  4. Freezing my assets off today in sub zero temps (sunny though) I kept thinking of you guys soaking up the sunshine in paradise. SIGH! So happy for you… so not happy for me. All I want is to be in the Caribbean. Is that too much to ask?! Apparently!

BTW – you are both looking so rested and healthy, it’s like you’re turning back the clock!

  5. The Canon shots look great!

  6. What kind of lure, setup and speed to catch this great fish/
