We’ve not only started to compile an extensive hurricane season to-do list, but we’ve begun ticking items off that list as well. There are numerous boat-related projects on the list, some big and some small. With less time spent traveling, we also have room to work on additional projects too. Last year, the biggy for me, was completing the training and testing to acquire my RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Captain’s license. This took both time and money but I feel that it was worthwhile, even if it has yet to provide any dividends beyond my increased confidence when operating our boat on the water.

My plan for this season is to apply an equal amount of dedication to getting the book that has been living in my head down on paper. I’m not sure which task is actually more daunting, writing the book or taking the Yachtmaster exam. At the time I did the RYA training, I already had a fair amount of sea miles. By comparison, I’ve never written a book. Sure, I write in this blog everyday, and some of the content may end up being similar, but a book seems much more imposing, at least to me.

Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about the Hiking eBook that I promised. Writing that and a couple of other eBooks is also on hurricane season to-do list.

Note: You may recall reading about our martial arts friend Christian who visited us back in the BVIs. At the time he was in the process of traveling around the world from jiu-jitsu gym to jiu-jitsu gym. He has since finished his book chronicling his travels and I am stoked to read it!

  1. You can do it! And I know you will. Your fellow writing friends are always here to help, both in moral support and rough draft editing. Go Mike!

  2. Based on this blog, we’re sure the book will be a great read. We look forward to it!

  3. Ha, call it 50 Shades ….of Sailing, that should get some attention, money and a movie contract.

  4. Dont write a book, write chapters!!!!! I will buy first one!!!

  5. Hi Mike and Rebecca, if you could tear yourself away from Hog, I personally would love to see a book from yourselves.

  6. You will do great. You’ve already proven yourself as a writer with this blog and the published articles. Just don’t make the common mistake of most self-published writers; not having a professional editor go over the final draft. I can spot the difference between one who did and one who didn’t before the end of the first page. Spend the $ to have it done right and you will reap it back in increased sales. Trust me on this one.

  7. We’ll buy a few copies, provided they’re autographed!

  8. I am reading your blog from the start and wondered how your book is coming on? I would love to read a book by you – I have stopped reading books at the moment while I am reading about 4 years of yours and Rebecca’s lives! It’s such a great blog.
I am also following your current posts and wish you both good luck in your new venture! Looking forward to following the next chapter of your lives!
