Although we have only been off our boat for a couple of weeks we have already started a countdown timer until we can get Katana back in the water and get back on board. Assuming an April 15th splashdown (I have no idea when we can really do it) there are only 168 days remaining.

We are still in the process of winterizing Katana. Tomorrow morning we will be meeting the guys who are going to shrink-wrap her on Saturday. Following that meeting we will need to change the spark plugs and remove and store both the lifelines and the trampoline. That should pretty much do it for the pre-shrink-wrap, winter-prep stuff.

This morning I contacted a local sail loft about repairing the small tear we put in our main sail. The guy I spoke to on the phone sounded very nice and “dialed-in.” Hopefully it won’t be too much of a production to fix it.

Our big task today is going to the lawyer’s to sign the papers for the sale of our business. This is HUGE for us and I wouldn’t be being honest if I didn’t say that we were feeling a tiny (really tiny) bit of seller’s remorse. It’s a big change! This solidifies our path though and is necessary for us to take off cruising next year.

Check out the pic below of Katana being hauled out. Our marina-friends, Adrian and Lucy, were nice enough to send us a bunch of pics that they took. Thanks guys!

  2. Mike,

Before you get the shrink wrap completed or before you walk away from Katana thinking she’s all set for the winter, make certain she is level! Water has a wonderful way of getting in the darnedest places and if the boat is not sitting “on her lines”, it will surely end up someplace bad. Also make sure you can get to the cockpit drains so you can make sure they are free of debris, snow, ice, etc.

Regardless, when it’s time to splash in the spring, you will get to “enjoy” some quality boating activity – aka, cleaning things you thought were clean – AGAIN!

    Fair Winds,
    Mike
