Yesterday I mentioned obtaining weather info. Things are obviously a lot different for cruisers these days with numerous good websites available for those who can access the internet. Here is a list of some of the good ones:

http://www.stormpulse.com
http://www.stormcarib.com
http://www.wunderground.com
http://www.windguru.com
http://www.passageweather.com
http://www.nhc.noaa.gov
http://www.oceanweather.com

Note: Commenters should feel free to post other links that they have found useful and I’ll amend the post to add them.

We also listen to weather info on our SSB radio, especially when we don’t have internet access. Weather Guru Chris Parker broadcasts on 4.045 Mhz at 6:30 AM EST. His other broadcast times are listed on his website:

http://www.mwxc.com

We can also hear the Bahamas and offshore weather forecasts by listening to the Waterway Net on 7.268 at 7:45 AM EST.

Of course, even though we have not yet been listening to him, I can’t talk about weather info on the SSB without mentioning Herb Hilgenberg who is the grand daddy of weather guys on the net. He broadcasts on 12.359 at 4:30 EST (I think).

  1. Land dwellers don’t realize how much the weather controls our lives! Except for farmers. Their life is as controlled by the weather as ours.

  2. More weather links on the Frugal Mariner – the How to Read the Weather page –

    http://www.frugal-mariner.com/Weather.html

    way down at the bottom.

I’m going to lift yours and add them to ours – there may be duplicates.
