We showed up to the boatyard yesterday to, once again, find the unheard of… people there working on our boat before we even arrived! Shortly after that, without any action on my behalf, James from Sure Power drove up with our new depth gauge in his hand. Based on past experience, we honestly just never expect for things like this to happen!

With the transducer then in my hand, I sent Graham from Dynamite a message and shortly after that, he arrived to collect it, and told us that his guys would be around later in the afternoon to install it. Again, we just don’t expect for things to happen that quickly!

Not a new hole in the boat as the old depth transducer lived there before.
We just had to make the hole a bit larger to accommodate the Raymarine transducer.

The only bad news we received yesterday is that our life raft failed its recertification tests.

“Your Plastimo liferaft has been tested in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and unfortunately, the 14 year old unit has failed these tests.

In addition to the failing of the Working Pressure Test, the unit has shown signs of glue degradation as the water pockets have detached from the floor of the liferaft while the liferaft seams have also begun to breakdown.”

I was not completely shocked at this as, in my mind, there was about a 50/50 chance that it wouldn’t pass. I guess a new raft is in our future. It’s only money, right?

  1. well..as….a former Prime Minister of Trinidad,..Dr Eric Williams,used to say…”money is no problem…..the problem is money|”……………..new life raft…….coming right up.!!!!!..lol

  2. Yes, we were fortunate as well in Trinidad to find people that worked on your boat and were very prompt and communicated well – quite a nice change. Good luck with searching for a new life raft – we had to do that when ours failed for being eaten through with lots of holes from ants! Fortunately we had the Miami boat show to go to then to do all the research. Will be interested to see what you come up with. Looks like you will definitely be getting to know Frost inside and out (which is always a good thing) – best wishes from us both

  3. Mike, when you get a chance if you could post please on why you went to Trini for the hull work. What work would you do in Grenada v. Trini? I recall you had some major work done on One Love in Grenada and you think well of the yards there. What is the comparison of the hourly rate at each location?
