Turn left at the car wash and then right at the cow… those were the directions given to our friends so that they could make their way to the nearby “secret” hot spring. As one would expect, they went on to share that secret with us and of course, we were up to the challenge of trying to follow those cryptic directions to find the spot. As luck would have it, the cow wasn’t on the job yesterday but some friendly area residents told us where to turn. The hike to the pool was short so Rebecca and I continued on up the stream exploring, climbing over boulders until we ran into a steep rock face which we assume, during the rainy season, is an impressive waterfall. Neither Rebecca nor I have had the opportunity to soak in a natural hot spring and it was pretty neat. The bathtub-hot water was running directly out of the rock face, just 10 feet away from the small pool. It made me reminisce about our favorite feature of our old house, the hot tub on the back deck. As nice as that was, I’d have to say that a natural hot pool in the middle of the jungle is a bit better though.

The cow was off station.

These cool trees are everywhere…

…begging to be climbed!

Look at how tall just one of the roots of this tree is!

The Swamp Blood tree is named for the color of its sap.
No, I didn’t cut this chunk out of the tree. We found it this way.

Is there enough green here for St. Patrick’s day?

Working our way up the stream bed.

Climbing over these boulders reminded us of the hike we did in Deshaies.

Not just over but under.

So much to see!

The end of the road. In the rainy season I bet there is a nice waterfall here.

All that’s present now is a little pool at the bottom though.

Heading back down to the hot pool.

This was a fun little hike…

…with a lot of variety.

Hot water running directly out of the rock face.
The pipe is just wedged in the rocks to direct the water into a stream.

Better than any hot tub!

Enjoying the warm fresh water.

The sound of water trickling into the pool added to the ambience.

No chlorine or other chemicals in this water.

We may just have to come back here again!

Our friends on s/v Earthling. Wondering where Kelly is?
