Beach parties have a way of just coming together for cruisers. What may start out as a small gathering on shore for a few friends can mushroom into a big event, much like that which we were invited to on St. Patrick’s day here.

After a great potluck dinner with friends both new and old, while we were all just relaxing and enjoying the music, Sid, the cruiser who spearheaded the get-together, surprised us all by breaking out his fire poi. The first time we saw someone fire dance in person was last January back in Georgetown (at another beach party). Since that time Rebecca has been interested in learning to do it herself. So much so that for her last birthday I gave her a set of real poi, and some practice ones so that she could learn without burning herself.

When it comes to dancing, any form of dancing, Rebecca is quite studious. But although she has had ample opportunity to work with her practice poi, St. Patrick’s day was the first time she had had the opportunity to try it out with actual fire. I may be biased but I think she did a pretty awesome job!

  1. I would pay to watch that…Dammm, she is good…..Great job Rebecca!!!

  2. That was good! Thanks.

All she has to do is add the high kicks, splits, rolling round on the sand, swinging them from her feet etc and you have found how to “supplement your cruising kitty”. Contract entertainment wherever you go. You could add Martial Arts demos, fighting off the admirers. 🙂

If pole dancing can be included too it would become unique!!!!

  3. You’re right Mike … Rebecca was great! Looks like that requires a lot of coordination, and to think that was her first time with real fire … awesome!

  4. good job Rebecca

  5. Great job, I love the way she swings the fire in coordination with the beat…..you must be so proud of her……TL

  6. I thought she did a terrific job and it was very impressive. Honestly, you’ve found a source of income – just put a little basket out or, better yet, you can pass the hat Mike.

    • Sandra: Perhaps you have yet to learn this but if we had to rely upon donations from cruisers we would most certainly starve. Cruisers, and I include ourselves in this category, are a pretty frugal lot.

  7. Great Job Rebecca! You are going to be the featured entertainer at all the beach parties now. MIke you had better get used to being a “groupie”!

  8. Very nice job on the fire poi Rebecca.

  9. Thats brilliant and not as easy as it first appears, I`m sure. What a meaningfull way to give something back to the cruising world. Follow that eh? Well done Rebecca.

  10. Wow, that’s awesome Rebecca !! So enjoy feeling the zest for life that so wonderfully comes through in your blogs !
