Although our Canon PowerShot D10 has served us extremely well since we’ve been cruising, it’s time for it to take a back seat to Canon’s update to that camera, the PowerShot D20. With the help of our friend Carl in the US, and our traveling companion Kirk who just returned there for a short visit, we now have a shiny new D20 in our hands. Although I have yet to really play with it, it feels as solid as its predecessor and can apparently record stills and video with a much higher resolution.

This morning Rebecca, Kirk and I will be taking the bus into St. George’s to explore and do a bit of shopping. We’ll be bringing the new camera along with us and hopefully will have some opportunities to put it to the test.

For those looking for a great deal on a new camera though, I see that Amazon is still selling the D10, and at a hundred and fifty dollar price reduction over what we originally paid for it! That’s a great deal on an excellent camera as far as I’m concerned.

  1. Nice camera. We have a Olympus Stylus Tough 8000 and have been very happy with it as well. It is good to 33 feet, 15MP, etc. And we have an Olympus UW housing for it as well. I did research the Canon as well and heard lots of positive comments about it.

  2. Mike I am looking for a water camera . I like your choice and it will get here for Sally’s birthday . When I click your link It takes me to Amazon. Will you get credit this way?

  3. Sweet! I’m looking forward to your thoughts after a week or so!
I am a dedicated Canon guy, and have been eyeballing the D20 as a “beach camera”

    • Just check the pics on the blog from this point forward. 🙂

My initial impression is that it’s a nice unit though.

  4. I’m looking forward to your report. I’ve been quite unhappy with the Fuji we bought last year, and I’ve been thinking about replacing it with a Canon. We had one once before and were pleased with it. The Fuji flares too much in instances where I wouldn’t expect over illlumination. And I can’t set it manually.

On another note, which version of PhotoShop do you use to add the watermark to your photos? Are you aware of any other programs that do the same thing? Is there a way to do it with the editing function on your Mac?

    Thanks!
    Cheryl

    • Hi Cheryl

I’ve never tried a Fuji but you know how much we like our Canon D10. I suspect this one will turn out to be even better!

As for PS, we use Photoshop CS Version 8.0. Adding the watermark is definitely not automated. It takes several steps in PS. Because I have done it a lot I am pretty quick at it but it would be nice if there was an easier way. Unfortunately, because I put the watermark in a different spot each time, I’m not sure there is.

  5. We would like a whole photo shoot of Samantha now….How has she adapted…..

    • We? And now you’re speaking for all of our readers? I promised Livia I wouldn’t turn this into a cat blog. 🙂

But since you asked, she is doing great.
