Some reading and shopping for you.

As promised I spent some time updating our Research Page yesterday, adding in a good number of new cruising links as well as shuffling a few around. At our friend Drew’s suggestion I also added in the links for the weather sites that we check to get our forecasts. Perhaps these will be helpful to some of the newer sailors out there.

After Saturday’s long hash I am reminded of how much we like our new but highly-used Camelbaks. With all the hiking we’re doing in the hot sun the 70 oz Camelbak Rogues that we purchased are a godsend. Specialty items like this are all but impossible to find down here and when they are, they’re almost always being sold for at least 50% more than you could pick them up for in North America. If you are of the active sort, I would definitely include these in the “don’t leave home without them” category.

We loveLOVElove camelbaks! I only wish we had them for everyone in the family. Zach does the most hiking so we has the best one :)

The size we picked are perfect for hashing and shorter hikes. When we go on long treks that require we drag along more gear, we just stuff the entire thing inside our other, larger backpacks.

Do you do anything to keep the bladder from getting grungy?

    • October 22, 2012

No. Grunge is good, isn’t it? Actually, we use them so much they don’t really get a chance to get too grungy.

They have cleaning kits you can buy, but the opening is so wide that they are easy to clean and air out.

I agree, for those who don’t like grunge that is.

Thanks for all the time you put into your Research page. The weather links are a great addition and many of those I hadn’t heard of before. Much appreciated! We still love following you guys…you are our inspiration since it will be some time before we can cast off ourselves.

I’m not sailing but it’s great to check out the links on your research page. There’s some good stuff there. Thanks for taking the time and effort to put that together. I have forwarded the page on to some boating friends. Keep up the good work.

Hello Mike, If I click on a link from your research page, say to purchase a book…do you get credit or “coffee money”? :-)

    • October 22, 2012

      Hi Rob

Yes. On the books it literally is change but every little bit counts! :)

Wow! Great work on that research site! Somebody could easily lose 3 days or more of their life, browsing through the links in that one page. Good job! Good stuff!

    • October 22, 2012

You could three days on our site alone. I bet the links on that page would set you back a year!

    Hey you two,

Going Amazon shopping but cannot find the link on your site. How’s come?

Thanks Jim! Use the search boxes in the ride hand side bar to find what you’re looking for. If you begin there it should credit to our affiliate account.

VERY good reminder for the Camelbaks! I just put those on my boating equipment list. I use mine all the time while cycling. Been using the same one since I was in the military 15 years ago…and no ‘grunge’ to speak of…lol. Still in excellent condition.
