You’ve no doubt heard some form of the expression “Red sky at night, sailor’s delight. Red sky in the morning, sailor take warning.” I remember hearing it as a child but only just recently did I come to learn the science behind this expression, and the fact that it really only relates to geographic areas dominated by westerly winds. A quick Google search brought up this link which explains it well. This other link also explains it, and the science behind some other weather lore.
