Even though the conditions had only marginally improved since Thursday, we were pleased to find that yesterday’s return trip to Martinique was the exact opposite of the one we experienced while heading south. I find that surprising too as we were close hauled the entire way.

In spite of our being hard on the wind, we were able to relax, read our Kindles, and let the autopilot steer Frost to our destination. We also didn’t get splashed in the face numerous times like we did when we sailed to St. Lucia, which was nice!

In case you’re curious about what we consider rough, Rebecca edited the video montage above from clips that we recorded during Thursday’s passage (not yesterday). Enjoy.

  1. After a day with wet sails you deserved a relaxing one.

  2. That is fun for a bit– It gets old after awhile though..

  3. Nice, it gives a much better perspective of the conditions with the camera near the rub rail. It’s always very hard to tell when the video is shot from standing height. Pretty large swells throwing you around. I’m glad you had a better return trip.
    Cheers

    • Hi Javan. It is so hard to capture waves on video, or in photos. What I have learned is that if waves look big when recorded, they are actually HUGE!!!!

      • Indeed, in a lot of the storm videos I’ve seen, the conditions don’t look too bad. I know it’s a whole different story on deck though! I wonder if it would work to mount a camera in a gimbal low on the deck or rail? It would be interesting to see the outcome anyway?

        • This was in no way a storm. It was just a typical bumpy day in between the islands.

A gimbal would no doubt give a different view. I don’t know if it would improve things, or make them worse. I’d love to have one to try. 🙂
