Back home in Canada we lived only a few hours drive from Niagara Falls, one of the country’s major tourist destinations. Much like the Grand Canyon in the US, people travel from all over the world to visit there. Isn’t it typical though that, like so many people who are virtually next door to major tourist destinations but never visit there themselves, I never even saw the falls until I was in my 30s.
When researching Grenada, prior to making landfall here in 2011, we read about the Underwater Sculpture Park and determined that we must visit there. And we repeatedly told ourselves that all last year while we were here, but we never went. Now, after having our senses blasted by the non-stop music and sights of carnival the past few days, the anchorages near the park seem like a perfect place to detox. The park is only a 15 minute trip north of St. George’s so after we run a bunch of errands and clear out of Port Louis Marina, we’ll be heading right there. The weather forecast for the next few days is for light winds and seas so let’s hope that translates into good water clarity around the statues.
PS: I didn’t want to overwhelm you all with even more pics from carnival but we did shoot a bunch of photos of the bright costumes while watching the final parade yesterday.
PPS: We had a great time with all of our friends at the marina. In our opinion, Port Louis Marina really is the best place to stay if you want to be in the heart of the carnival!
