Shoal Survivor

When our PDQ 32 was put up for sale, it was pretty easy for prospective purchasers to visualize what they'd be getting. I had, after all, blogged about every single facet of that boat since the day that we took possession of her. As it so happens, our friend Drew, another avid blogger (who I have linked to dozens of times), and regular contributor to Practical Sailor and other nautical magazines, has just listed his PDQ 32/34 for sale. I'm…

epic

It may be hard to imagine that the leg described as "the most challenging ride on the Baja Divide" would become our favorite, and I say that because it's surprising to me, but that's actually how we'd describe the route to Mulege. In spite of the two and a half day journey from San Juanico being extremely strenuous, everything about it was epic. There are a number of reasons why we enjoyed it so much, and none of them are…

Taking advantage of our time off in Mulegé, and the decent Wi-Fi that we've found nearby, here is the long-awaited followup to our first Baja Divide video, Bikepacking Tecate to Vicente Guerrero. That video was published almost exactly 1 month ago, and this one picks up right where it left off. We included a bit of foggy footage that we shot as we made our way out of Vicente Guerrero, a selection from our last few days of riding, and a…

gear

That makes it a week shy of two months that we've been on the road, working our way south through Baja on anything but an easy path. Yesterday I wrote an email to Daniel, the founder of Tumbleweed Bicycles, telling him that if he ever wants to put a new bike through its paces, he should send someone down…

boat

Early this morning, quite likely before the sun has broken the horizon, Rebecca and I will be making our way to the local fishermen's beach to try to rustle up a ride in a panga, a small local boat. Our objective will be to try to convince one of the fishermen to take us and our bikes across the Bay of Conception to Los Hornitos, a beach about 8 miles away. It is there that we'll hopefully locate an indistinct…

problems

I guess I should have known better than to write a post publicly stating that we've had no bike problems. Bikes, like boats, obviously don't appreciate that kind of attention. Although problems, aka challenges, may be stressful when they're occurring, doesn't it seem, when you look back on them, that they often result in some of the more positive experiences? It appears that way to me, but only in hindsight. Problems definitely suck when they're occurring! Our time in Mulegé…
