The weather yesterday was much more suited for indoor stuff than playing up on deck and thus it was a perfect day to bust out Rebecca’s new sewing machine and give it a whirl. We only had a very small scrap of sunbrella lying around so the size of the project would have to be limited. As Rebecca told me that during her high-school Home Ec class she made lots and lots of pencil cases it seemed only fitting that she should christen the new machine with one of the same. The case she ended up making was sized to fit more than just pencils though. She actually made it to hold all of our charting tools. It would have been handy to have this case back when we had to drag that stuff to our seamanship class each week. Speaking of seamanship classes, we still haven’t heard any results. Perhaps they are afraid to tell us?

Yes, that is a sword (a Katana, or more accurately, a Boken) hanging behind Rebecca’s head. It fits in perfectly with the disco ball!

Hi Guys, which sewing machine did you end up buying at lotathings? (Thanks for the link, BTW.) The 3101 looks like it could do double duty as a general and heavy duty machine but I’d be interested to know which you chose. And are you running it off of your boat’s DC system through an alternator. Must be a bit of an electron hog, no?

    • We got the Necchi 6110. We only just tried it today and it was run through our boat’s inverter. We are connected to shore power now so weren’t really paying attention to energy draw. If we weren’t on shore power I definitely would be paying attention. I will have to check the specs to see how many amps it draws while running.

  3. She put in a zipper? She’s no beginner is she?

  4. That’s so exciting! I can’t wait to get my hands on a sewing machine. And I just had to comment about the disco ball because I keep begging for one for our cockpit. It’s so big we could turn it into a dance floor a la Saturday Night Fever. That might be a little taxing on the electrical system though.

Love your blog btw! We’ve been reading for a while now and you always have such great info.

    • Hi Tina

Thanks for the comment. I look forward to checking out your blog too!

If your cockpit it that big then we are jealous. If you could fit a dance pole in it then Rebecca would be in heaven! 🙂
