Since we had success with the 10mm stainless chain strategy for locking ZTC’s dinghy (success being defined as no one stealing our dinghy), we decided to use the same method for the new super tender. For those who have never shopped for it, 10 mm chain is expensive. How expensive? Over $23.00 US per foot! Fortunately, the chain we had locking ZTC’s tender was purchased from our friend Ken for a lot less than that. We also got a super deal on the chain for this tender from the guys at Budget Marine. All I had to do was put it all together in the manner that is described here. For the record, it was the same friend, Ken, who suggested this method of locking the dinghy.

  1. How do you secure the chain to the dingy?

    • Ideally I would do the same thing to the internal cleat. I cheated and used a high security pad lock. In a short while it will seize up and be impossible to open too. 🙂

  2. Hey Mike,

I am curious, as a fellow Canuck, how do you maintain your drivers licenses?? Or have you obtained them elsewhere?? Where is your principle residence? Are you now non-residents of Canada?

Now interested in the non boat technical stuff….

Thanks for all your wonderful adventures…always great morning reading prior to work etc…

    Appreciate all your efforts.

    • We had our drivers licenses and passports renewed just prior to leaving Canada so have not yet had to have them renewed. Our passport expires next year though so we need to take care of that asap. Thanks for the reminder. I believe it can be done by shipping them back.

  3. the most difficult part about getting your passport renewed by mail is getting your photo taken EXACTLY according to the Canadian (not US) directions – any slight difference and the passport gets returned to you for re-submission!!!

    • I just read that they do NOT accept applications by mail from outside the US and Canada. I emailed them for clarification. How long do you think it will take to have the government respond to an email inquiry?

      • Is there a consulate in Grenada?? You can attend at one to renew. Unsure otherwise??

Should not be an issue though. Had a daughter living in Kuwait for five years and she was able to renew without a hitch…
Curious about your drivers licenses though and your residence for Income Tax purposes. My daughter was officially a non res for tax purposes and lived a tax free life for five years. I am speaking to Canadians here as USA citizens are NOT afforded that option. As someone in the Financial Planning Biz, that is why the questions. I have intent here, so not a random question

I can find out for you if you wish and advise, no worries…

Phyllis and I plan our escape very soon, Lady J 111 awaits….
