From the time we picked up the mooring ball in St. David’s yesterday until it was time for dinner, Rebecca and I worked diligently to give ZTC a thorough pre-cleaning. I say pre-cleaning as there’s still a lot more to do. Before we actually walk away from ZTC later this week, the boat will be made ready for storage, not live-aboard as it is now. To remind us all of what a pretty boat she is though, I snapped the following pics as we worked.

She really is a beautiful and well-made vessel. This is how we really want to remember her though…

  1. And how proud you are. Have loved following your blog and Facebook page. My husband and I are inspired to be following in your steps when our youngest leaves school in two and a half years. Thanks for posting the photos. Good Luck with your next venture. Looking forward to pictures of the haul out. Hope it all goes well

  2. It’s bittersweet

  3. Got to be tough leaving that pretty little thing! I want to see her bottom cheeks after all those rubbings 🙂

  4. Nooooooooo. I am not ready to leave ZTC yet. 🙁 Sniff, sniff.

  5. I have loved following your blog, the pictures have been so amazing, but somewhere I missed that you are putting ZTC in storage for what reason? In a nutshell, is it due to the family in CA and being with your new grandchild? I’m sorry I thought I kept up pretty well, but I missed something somewhere along the way :(. Just think of all the memories and you were kind enough to share them with us, thanks again 🙂 Godspeed on your adventures!

Thanks for all the pictures, stories and just plain fun you have provided us during your adventures. You have been an inspiration as well as providing knowledge for both Sue and I as we prepare to embark on our own sailing adventure. Perhaps we can meet you when we get down to Grenada (whenever that might be) and have a drink of coconut milk with you. I’d offer something a little stronger but since you’ve sworn off alcohol that’s the best I can do. Of course, July is only a week away and you may decide giving it up is not such a good idea. Anyway, we wish you the best as you begin your next adventure.

    • Thanks, guys! I’m sure we’ll be off the wagon by the time we see you. The rum is too good to stay away from it indefinitely.

  7. Wait, did I miss something? Are you guys packing it in? Swallowing the anchor and all that?

  8. How long do expect to have your boat on the hard? Which leads to my next question, how long have you committed yourselves to the new venture?

    • You realize your asking about long term plans to two people who have lived virtually day to day for the past three years? We have no idea what tomorrow will bring.

  9. Looking forward to the new chapter..

  10. Those are amazing pictures. It is a huge credit to you as to how you have looked after that boat for the 3 years, (plus one beforehand,) that you have been cruising. She appears to be in new condition. Clearly she was well made as well as very well looked after.

I hope you are very proud.

    • We have done the best that we could. Should we ever sell her, I am sure she would look after her new owners just as well as she has us.

  11. Been following you guys with much envy for the past year or so.

Good luck in your new endeavor!

  12. We loved the video. Yes, that is how we remember her too, and all the fun times on Zero to Cruising (Katana). On to the next chapter!

We always enjoy your post and for my husband and I it has become part of our daily routine to see what’s happening on ZTC! I was wondering if you will continue to post here or will you create a new page? Best of luck to you both!

    • Thanks, Cheryl. The blogging details have not been worked out but there is a good chance we’ll do both. In fact, a website for the new endeavor is already under construction.

  14. Wow. It’s so strange to think of you leaving her behind after she has been your everything for three years.

I am really looking forward to reading along with your new venture. SO MUCH new material you will have!!!!

God Speed on your road trip – a friend recently did a road trip through Utah and WOW is it gorgeous. You really should add a couple of days to the trip and see the sights… you might never get another chance. And stay at the MGM in Vegas and enjoy the lazy river… best thing in that town.

    XO

  15. I just found your blog a week ago and been reading it every day from the very beginning. Got as far as 2011 and it’s like a great book, I don’t want to get to the end too fast.

Congratulations on an amazing journey and a great way you have been documenting it here !!! Reading your blog is like a vacation away from day to day routine, at least for a non sailor like myself. You inspired me to take swimming lessons, yes I can’t even swim. Have to start somewhere. :))

Once you start your charter I will be signing up for sure and maybe get some sailing lesson from you !

Thank you for sharing your wonderful adventure.

    • Hi Peter

Thanks for joining in and even more so, thanks for your super generous donation to our cruising kitty. Rebecca and sincerely appreciate it!

We’ll get charter info out asap. Until then, I hope you continue to enjoy the blog.

  16. Too funny, your pictures and comments remind me of our discussion last week when we finally got the house on the market – “She’s never looked so good!” Congrats on making it to the next chapter. We’re now on the 12-month count-down and then hopefully we can share a sundowner with you again in the BVIs. I know you’ve probably said, but what is the charter boat’s name?

  17. We have enjoyed all your posts regarding ZTC and thank you both for some very informative and educational blogs. Our boat building project is in its fourth year (also no sailing experience at this stage) and you guys have been a wealth of information and inspiration throughout this time. We wish you everything of the best with your new venture and look forward to following your next chapter. Warm regards Noreen (aka Grace May on Facebook) and Chris Bretter.
