In a post very early on in our sell stuff, buy a boat process, I shared that Rebecca and I referred to lottery tickets as Antares tickets, naming them after our then dream boat, the Antares 44. A lot has changed since that time but we still admire those cats, and can always pick them out from a distance on the rare occasions that we do see them.

Two Fish under sail. We snapped this shot before we actually met Jason and Gail.

Even though we have come across several Antares yachts in our travels, we had never had the opportunity to get on board one and look around. That is, until a week or so ago when we finally crossed paths with Two Fish. Like many of our new friends, we first became acquainted with Jason and Gail online through our blog and then Facebook. Through private messages we learned that after a very long trip from South America, they were finally going to be in our area. As luck would have it, our charter schedule meshed with their cruising schedule so at 7:30 one morning, Rebecca and I were able to slip away for a short time to share a cup of coffee and have a tour of their beautiful yacht.

As we had expected, the Antares is a well thought out boat and for cruising, one that I think would be hard to beat. After living on a 4600 for just shy of a year, its size was not as overwhelming to us as it likely would have been a few years ago, and that’s a good thing. I could definitely see us sailing one to some far off destinations. Do they sell lottery tickets in the VI? 🙂

The guests that Jason and Gail had on board will soon be taking delivery of their brand new Antares!

  1. I too have the Antares 44i as my dream boat and was able to get on one at Strictly Sail Miami a couple months ago. It is still at the top of my list without a close second. Now to find the million bucks it takes to buy one……. Guess I’m back to finding that great boat for $40,000………..

  2. 32ft. – 44ft, no real difference..

  3. Dreams are always important to have but you have demonstrated with ZTC that cruising / living on the smaller cat is certainly possible and within the reach of many more.
Enjoy your short breaks! Still waiting for the ice in the Mississauga marina to go out in time for early May launch. As of Sunday it was broken up but still 8″ thick in some spots.

  4. Mine was a maverick….had a tub….I miss a tub, but wouldn’t trade my Lagoon 420 for much now!

  5. Okay, cash in the pension plans, the RRSP’s, the TFSA, sell the house – I’m getting so close to the Antares, but uh oh, its Revenue Canada at my door, so no Antares after all. I guess I’ll go invest in a lottery ticket tomorrow instead.

Hopefully in the fall we will be shopping for a cat for a wee bit less $. If you see a more modest cat next winter with a Saskatchewan Roughrider flag flying off the standing rigging – that would be us.
