Rebecca and I had a busy morning Christmas gift shopping. And by busy, I mean we got it all done while sitting in the salon, simultaneously enjoying our coffee, and listening to the Martinique cruiser’s VHF radio net. Gotta love multitasking, and Amazon and UPS!

The rest of our morning will be filled with actual errands: shopping for groceries, gasoline, and propane. We’re anchored a couple of miles away from the stores, so this involves a bit of a long dinghy trip. We had intended on making the journey yesterday, but Mother Nature, with her rain and squalls, had other ideas!

Perhaps while we’re out and about we’ll pick up the ingredients for one of our favorite Christmas cocktails: the Cranberry Mojito. They were a big hit with our holiday charter guests. While not quite the sorrel drinks that are common this time of the year in the Caribbean, they do look similar, and taste awesome!

Cranberry Mojitos
(makes one)

  • 10 mint leaves
  • 1 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1/8 c. dried sweetened cranberries
  • 2 tsp. lime juice
  • 2 oz. light rum
  • 1 c. cranberry juice (we used  cranberry juice cocktail)

Enjoy!

  1. How easy izs it to get things from Amazon in the various islands?

    • Well, nowhere near as easy as it is in the USA, which is what we were doing today, shipping to the States.

Every island has different rules with respect to importation of goods. Some are duty free, like St. Maarten, while others offer reduced duties for boat parts (Grenada, for example). Most I have no idea about.

Your first hurdle will be to have an address to ship to. Fortunately, many marinas will allow you to use their address to ship to.

  2. Hello Mike & Rebecca

Although I’m sticking with the Jab, Cross Hook, I bought you a couple of Cranberry Mojito’s for Christmas! Best wishes for the Holidays.
