Yesterday one of our new friends asked us what we have been doing to recommission ZTC. Here are the basics:

Completed:

  • The first thing we did was give her exterior a good bath. Twice. We had left the topsides covered with a thick coat of wax and that, along with the boatyard dust, needed to be removed.
  • We polished all of the stainless. We were pleased to see that there was very little rust.
  • We went through the interior of the boat and cleaned up all the anti-bug powder that we had left behind. We were happy to find no live creatures, nor any mold.
  • We then scrubbed and cleaned the interior of the boat (floors, bulkheads, cabin top, bilges, lockers, etc.).
  • We reinstalled the trampoline, using new line to affix it.

In progress:

  • We had the engines removed and taken off site for servicing. They’ll be replaced with new shifter and throttle cables.
  • Some minor gelcoat repairs are being completed.
  • Rebecca and I removed a fair amount of the interior woodwork and are refinishing it. This is a job that we would have completed the summer that we laid her up. It had nothing to do with her being stored, it was just time.

Still to do:

  • We have not yet replaced any of the running rigging and sails. The Dyneema halyards that we removed were stored on One Love and our shipment of stuff has not yet arrived in Grenada. I understand that it will be here Friday.
  • The topsides still need to be compounded and waxed.

There is more but that will give you some idea of what we’ve been up to. Thanks again to our friends for not kicking us out of their house for turning their outdoor living area into a workshop!

  1. How many hours where on the Engines?

  2. given the state of ZTC, I commend you on how you left her. When you have someone check on her during time out of use, what kind of services do they perform? Do they run the engines, check electrical systems, etc., or do they just keep an eye on her?

    • Mostly he kept his eye on her to make sure nothing bad was occurring. I also had him check the wet cell batteries to make sure that they were topped up with water.

  3. Your sole look lovely. What did you use on it?

  4. Have you used it before? What is the life expectancy?

    thanks
