Somedays, while sailing, the conditions are just perfect. We find our boat skimming across the water’s surface with 15 knots of wind just aft of the beam, calm waters and clear skies. It doesn’t happen often but it has been known to occur.

Every once in a while we luck out with an equally special day when we’re out hiking. While consistent wind isn’t so important to us while we’re trekking through the jungle, sunny, clear skies sure are appreciated. When we reach the top of a high peak that is almost always shrouded in clouds and find great visibility, we know that we have really lucked out. Yesterday was just such a day.

At 7:30 AM we met up with our new friend Aeneas and set off to locate the trailhead to Mt. Liamuiga, St. Kitts’ dormant volcano. Rebecca and I hiked the trail the last time that we were on the island but trips like this are always worth repeating. As it turned out, we had an even better experience this time around.

The three of us were treated to amazing views from the crater rim and we had much more time to explore when we made it to the bottom of the crater. I don’t actually have a bucket list of things to accomplish as some people do but if swimming in a fresh water crater lake was on such a list, I could now check it off. For the record, the water was chilly!

Now that we’ve managed to complete this hike again, we might move over to Nevis a bit later on today. I’d like to go on record to say that our time on St. Kitts was made extra special this trip by our friend Aeneas. We are so glad that we had the opportunity to meet him. For those looking for a bit of nautical content today, Aeneas is not just another pretty face. On the contrary, he was the Captain of the luxury sailing yacht Andromeda for 9 years. Check out the yacht’s website… the ship is amazing!

  2. OKaaay!…still waiting on the good news…..got the champagne ready to pop!

  3. When you come back, you’ll have to do the peak hike (you did the crater hike). That’s on the other side and awesome (but still hard) if the conditions are right. At the very tip top is a mailbox, to boot. We wouldn’t want you to run through everything on your bucket list too quickly!

    • We spent some looking for a trail on the ridge line to see if we could traverse over to there. We’ll definitely have to check that out next time. Maybe Aeneas will scope it out for us. 🙂

  4. Nice photos. Any snakes on these islands especially poisonous ones?
