A cool find.
As you may have read, our refrigerator is no longer functioning, and won’t be until we get it repaired. A friend of ours suggested that if we were to find a 12 VDC cooler, it might help to tide us over. Additionally, it would be a good back up during times that we need to defrost the fridge (without chipping the ice!) or just to store more cold beer for a party (one can never have enough cold beer)! Good luck finding one though, right? Well, on our last stop in Santiago, in pretty much the last section of the huge store we were searching in, we found one. It seems to work fairly well and it uses very little power. Score! 🙂
It fits perfectly on top of our refrigerator and plugs in to the new 12 VDC receptacle that I installed back in February.
Good find Mike. I know you would never find that in Cuba!
I think we were lucky to find it here too.
So since Rebecca doesn’t have the 12V plug for her galley fan anymore, does that mean she gets more cold beer???

That does sound fair but since we have a 12 volt splitter, allowing two things to be plugged in at the same time, I don’t know if that’ll be necessary.
Just be careful you don’t draw to much current using a splitter and cause a fire. :((

Definitely. In truth we haven’t used it but nothing we have draws much current so we should be OK.
I have one of these, albeit a smaller one, which I use in the car on trips to Florida. However, the first time I used it, I made a big mistake. I was very tired by the time I got to my son’s house, and didn’t feel like bringing the stuff in. So I left it in the car, plugged in, until the next morning. BAAAAADD IDEA!!!! Next morning the stuff was still cold, but the bettery was flat. I’ve never done THAT again!
Yes, it warns right in the manual about doing that. We have a bit more power to play with so can leave it on 24/7.
We had one for our 4WD in Dubai. It was great for keeping cold drinks and food during our desert and wadi bashing, and also to put frozen stuff into after food shopping. In 50degC heat during Summer, it would have been a frantic drive home without the cooler to prevent the ice cream from melting! Ours was a dual-voltage – it plugged into 240v mains power as well as the 12v car system.
That sounds cool, Michele. I can visualize the drive home without it. 🙂
