A better spice solution?

Even though I have already devoted a couple of blog posts (1 and 2) to the subject of spice organization in the galley, you’d read here that neither of those ideas worked out so well for us. The solution illustrated below struck me as genius though. The plastic boxes originally contained Tic Tac candies and, in my opinion, are the perfect size for a boat. Maybe we should look for some of those when we head to downtown Port of Spain today?
By the way, relating to yesterday’s post, our vote for the island in the Windwards and Leewards with the largest number of good anchorages goes to… drum roll… Antigua! We’re definitely looking forward to visiting there again on our trip back north.

Great idea……I always thought of using empty prescription bottles, but this is better.

Here is a post by my friend George whose boat is still on the hard in Grenada. He apparently will be arriving to retrieve it soon. This is the post that he wrote before he left it. I too would be interested in what he has to say afterwards.

Note that I have heard those with boats in Trinidad have to deal with the mold issue more so that those who leave them in Grenada.

Great idea! But since I like to play devils advocate: Spices only come in jars or baggies larger than those tic tac boxes. Where will you store the leftover spices you will surely need soo to refill??
I said the same thing this morning. I suspect that we would just save the larger bulk amounts in a tightly sealed Tupperware container in the pantry.
Buy from the bulk foods section. Sometimes I buy just a teaspoon’s worth of something I know I won’t use again.
Bulk or not, down here shopping is more of a “buy it in whatever form you can” kind of a thing. There frequently aren’t that many options.

Sounds like a great idea. I might have to implement it myself, using the mega tic tac containers. It will keep my supplies of spices manageable & fresh. (also means I can buy/ use more).
Next time we come visit I want to see them.
