The other day we had the opportunity to watch Clint Eastwood’s movie Gran Torino for the first time. It was an awesome movie and we both really enjoyed it. There is a part in the film where Eastwood’s character is talking about tools to his young neighbor:

Take these three items, some WD-40, a vice grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone.

Because I had previously written about tools this immediately struck me as content for a Blog post. There was a thread on an internet cruising forum with the topic being “what one tool couldn’t you do without?” Apparently we know Clint’s answer!

A while ago we spent some time reading another couple’s Blog: Bumfuzzle. These two were apparently fairly controversial, at least within the cruising community, but they did successfully circumnavigate the globe on a catamaran with no sailing experience (when they started that is)! I could be mistaken, as it’s been some time since I read their Blog, but I think these guys seemed to fix just about everything on their boat with 3M’s 5200 (a marine-grade sealant), and they had plenty of things to fix! Perhaps if Clint was on a boat he would have added that to his list as well. Regardless I am sure we’ll have all of these things, and plenty more on our boat.
