I thought it would be funny to wait until April 20th to post this but had nothing of more interest to write about today, so here it is. One of the things that survived “The Great Purging” when we sold our house was our nice set of stainless steel pots. Although excellent for cooking, they were both heavy and took up a lot of space, neither of which are good on a boat. And so, like many other things, they have been retired. Their replacement is a nice set of stainless steel nesting cookware from Magma which we purchased from Pride Marine. Are we happy with our new pots? At this point, definitely. They seem like they are quite high quality and the storage footprint is infinitely smaller.

Speaking of storage, we “borrowed” a great idea from SV Estrellita 5.10B. Their idea was to use soft-sided cubes to store their clothing. The dimensions of those particular bags didn’t fit our lockers so we went to our local Walmart and picked up some cooler bags that did fit. Thanks Livia and Carol for the great idea.

  1. Hi – this is second time posting so sorry if it’s a repeat but the first one isn’t showing up! On the VHF – yes. We have a splitter, and the switch is on the nav table. Actually our spare aerial sits in a locker as there’s tons of stuff already on the pushpit, davits and aft deck without adding emergency kit.

  2. I thought your plants finally arrived

  3. So cool – glad it worked!

  4. Little luxuries like good pots and knives are good things to have on the boat. Be careful what you purge!

    • I hear you. I think the new ones will be much better for our purposes though. We don’t spend a lot of time in the galley.

      Thanks.

  5. Thanks for the tip about this cookware. I just bought a set on eBay (new) for around $115 for my (new to me) sailboat, and they rock. I got so tired of those Kmart sets you usually find on charter, so it’s a nice luxury to have a good set like these on my own boat. The round Magma grill is only good for smelting gold I have found. For some reason the rectangular models work much better.
    Great blog, BTW!
