A week ago we had our daughter visit us for the weekend. Her car was packed to the roof with dishes, blankets, towels, etc. when she left. We have stripped our kitchen to only the bare essentials: 2 plates, 2 bowls, 4 spoons, 4 forks… you get the idea. We haven’t used the dishwasher since that time as we don’t have enough to fill it!

Yesterday we reached one of our early financial goals. We had set an objective to save a certain amount of money in an account by the end of June. After delivering our kayaks to their new owners yesterday, and getting rid of a few more articles via Kijiji (a bit like Craigslist or ebay if you are not familiar with that) we reached our goal! This is almost 3 months early so we are pretty happy.

We keep getting nice emails and comments from friends saying that they admire our courage for doing what we are doing. Although I don’t think we particularly courageous I will admit that we are venturing a bit into the unknown (ok, not a bit but rather a huge amount). I can see how a lot of people wouldn’t want to shake things up quite this radically.

One of the latest messages I received had a nice sailing-related quote in it:

The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails.”

I think we will be doing a lot of sail adjusting from here on out!
